Back Yard Shack
Otherwise dubbed
“The Animal House”
The why and how of my life in the back yard during the pandemic.
Why

With the unknowns of Covid-19 and being an OR nurse I needed to consider the best course of action to protect my family from potential exposure from me.
I take it as my responsibility for their wellbeing no matter what the personal cost.

As a family we’ve been through much trial and tribulation with my wife Lydeana being a cancer survivor who is very fortunate to have survived. She has chronic lingering side effects which could be potentially fatal comorbidities.

Why move out of a nice big house? It was a small A-frame initially that we built on an addition in 2000. We opted for a very open floor plan for functional and aesthetic purposes. That plan made it impossible to live isolated from one another under the current circumstances with any certainty of safety.
Not being pragmatic to sell and move or for me to live elsewhere I opted to move outside.
HOW
THE INITIAL SHACK
10 X 10 AWNING WITH CHEAP ADD ON WALLS
RAISED FLOOR FROM CEDAR FENCING BOARDS
EXPEDIENT SHELTER ON HAND REINFORCED FROM MY COPIOUS JUNK SUPPLY!

HOW I GOT STARTED
I had two basic needs to address.
- Shelter
- Sanitation
I had no access to a separate bathroom in the house and the family still needed access to the basement and garage which were too full of junk to be useable spaces anyway.
Not one to keep a journal of my life, I’ve had a lot of interest expressed by others who would like to see and hear why and especially how I went about living outside the house since the pandemic hit. Fortunately pictures taken along the way are dated allowing me to get an accurate timeline of events. More importantly it gives my mind a reference to pull up specific memories that due to my current age and mental dysfunction are more difficult to access.
